Acupuncture is a technique of inserting hair-like, fine needles into known "acupuncture points" along "meridians." The intention is to balance and tonify the flow of vital energy or "Qi" (pronounced chee) throughout the body. Generally, there is minimal sensation. Due to the extreme fineness of the needle and the dexterity of the physician in inserting it swiftly through the skin. Once in place a sensation of a dull ache, a light electric current circulation along the treated limb, to a nice heat may be felt. The sensation is always bearable and considered a sign that the acuputure vessels are opening up to the flow of Qi and healing is imminent. The practice of acupuncture is at least 4-5 thousand years old. The original text known as Huang Ti Nei Ching Su Wen written about 400 B.C. still is consulted today. The practice of acupuncture is based on the meridian theory in which qi or vital energy, is believed to travel through precise pathways or meridans. There are twelve major meridans, each connected to a particular organ. The meridians connect the interior of the body to the exterior. They form a sort of grid or road map of the entire entire body system. There are about 350 points on the body although only about 150 are used. The acupuncturist is extremely sensitive and observant in determining the exact points to use and how. A delicate art which can bring about sublime to dramatic changes in one's energy level, healing capacity and even one's outlook on life.
Body Talk [click to toggle description]
Developed by chiropractor/ acupuncturist Dr. John Veltheim, BodyTalk is based on bio-energetic psychology, dynamic systems theory, Chinese medicine, and applied kinesiology. It has been extensively tested and used in clinics and hospitals in the United States, Europe, and Australia. By integrating a series of tapping, breathing, and focusing techniques, BodyTalk does not require diagnosis and therefore is within the scope of practice of LMTs and bodyworkers. Its intent is to help the body synchronize and balance its parts (organs, endocrine, lymph, brain, meridians, etc.) so they communicate effortlessly and heal themselves. It strengthens the body’s innate knowledge of how to repair itself. BodyTalk is used to address a range of health problems including fibromyalgia, infections, parasites, chronic fatigue, allergies, addictions, and cellular damage.
Chiropractic [click to toggle description]
The word "Chiropractic" is taken from Greek, meaning, "Done by Hand". Many cultures have used some form of physical manipulation in healing, including the Ancient Egyptians, Classical Greeks, Amerindians, Chinese, and Africans. Bonesetting was a form of spinal manipulation widely used by medical professionals in 19th century England. Daniel David Palmer is considered to be the modern discoverer of chiropractic. Originally from Port Perry, Ontario, D.D. Palmer began the codification of the philosophy, science and art of chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and opened the first school of Chiropractic there in 1897. Bartlett Joshua Palmer, D.D. Palmer's son, was influential in the development of modern chiropractic. Chiropractic is a branch of the health sciences which focusses upon the body's neuromusculoskeletal system. A chiropractor is concerned with how your body's skeletal and nervous system is functioning. Since your spine is the key highway for your central nervous system, a chiropractor is trained to use a variety of diagnostic methods to examine and treat your spine and bone structure. Although the major focus of chiropractic is on the spine and central nervous system, your chiropractor is concerned with the wellness of your whole body. Since your nervous system determines how well you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally, many problems you are experiencing may be related to a problem with your spine and nervous system. Chiropractors believe in whole body wellness. Wellness means many things to different people. To your chiropractor, wellness is the state of health where your body is free of interruption or interference to any part of your nervous system, enabling you full expression and enjoyment of life. Chiropractic care works to ensure that your nervous system is working fine, and this enhances your well being. Your chiropractor will discover any problems that are interfering with your nervous system and through hands-on-healing will work with you to eliminate them. After chiropractic care your body will be better able to heal itself. This, in turn, aids your body in maintaining optimum health and contributes to your overall wellness. Chiropractors believe in a holistic approach to health and healing, and have spearheaded this powerful health care trend.

A blend of ancient healing knowledge and modern technology to manage and control chronic or acute pain, and restore normal function. Originally derived from Acupuncture, a small concentrated electrical stimulation is applied sequentially to a unique combination of traditional acupuncture and motor-trigger points. This method of therapy is especially good for treating specific problems like acute and chronic pain, TMJ, frozen shoulder, and systemic dysfunction by releasing blockages to normal energy flow. Often used in combination with neuromuscular massage..
Feldenkrais Method [click to toggle description]
Developed by Russian-born Israeli educator Moshe Feldenkrais, this method establishes new connections between the brain and body through movement re-education. One of two formats of instruction is used: Awareness through movement and functional integration. In the one-on-one functional integration session, a teacher uses hands-on manipulation to guide the student toward new movement patterns. Awareness through movement classes are group sessions in which the teacher verbally guides students through repatterning. Feldenkrais proposed that nearly our entire spectrum of movement is learned during our first few years of life, but that these movements represent a mere 5 percent of all possibilities available to us. Habituated responses to problem areas in our lives are ingrained in our movement patterns. By retraining the central nervous system through the skeletal system, old patterns are eliminated and replaced with new skills that improve the physical, mental, and emotional functioning of the body. In this way, unconscious movement is brought into conscious awareness where it may be used as a tool for opening the human potential.
